Our journey: bringing authorship back

Our lives are often pre-authored by media, societal concepts, stereotypes, and stigma. BradBarrassfilms was born from a deep love for film as a form of storytelling – a medium that unfurls the colour, detail, and magic inherent in our individual and collective lives. We're passionate about creating spaces where people and communities in Totnes can reclaim their narratives, saying, 'This is me.'

The power of filmmaking for community building became vividly clear through projects like 'in the Making', created with the youth circle working group as part of Transition Together. Our curated community cinema screenings and film projects in Totnes are designed to be launchpads for genuine connection and social infrastructure. We select films and organise events that resonate deeply with the local community.

More than just a film

What's most important to us is creating films and screenings that truly build community. We move beyond the traditional film and short Q&A format. At BradBarrassfilms, we share the front of the stage – the entire room – with our audience. We share food, we move together, and we collectively dream into how we can make our community work for us all. The goal is to leave feeling connected, inspired, and empowered to make a difference.
